Alice Jane Virginia Houghtaling, age 96, of Whitehall, died on Thursday, December 10, 2020 in the Gundersen Tri-County Hospital in Whitehall.

Alice was born on November 22, 1924 in rural Ettrick to Martin and Mathilda (Iverson) Nelsestuen.  She married Robert J. Houghtaling on June 30, 1945 in Ettrick.

Robert preceded Alice in death on July 21, 2000.

Alice and Robert lived in Illinois and California and lived in Eau Claire for ten years prior to moving to Whitehall in 1996.

Alice enjoyed playing games, music and nice things.  Always learning new things was important to her, such as taking piano lesions for quite a few years.   Alice loved life and was always a happy person.

Alice is survive by three children, Virgil (Vanja) Houghtaling and Anita (Gary) Semb both of Whitehall and Jessica Day of Eau Claire; seven grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Alice was preceded in death by a son, Robert P. Houghtaling; a sister, Irene Hoff and six brothers, Orlando, Norman, Walter, Stanley, Ernest and Herbert Nelsestuen.

Private family services will be held with burial in the French Creek Lutheran Cemetery in rural Ettrick.

The Jack Funeral Home in Whitehall is assisting the family with arrangements.
