Allen Rudolph Thompson, age 87, of rural Blair, died on Wednesday, August 29, 2012 in his home.

Allen was born on December 4, 1924 in Whitehall, WI to Anton and Amanda (Thompson) Kelly. Allen's mother, Amanda, died when he was nine months old. Amanda's brother, Martin, and his wife, Clara, adopted and raised Allen.

Allen married Shirley Mae Jorgenson on February 26, 1947 in Ettrick. She preceded him in death on March 31, 2006.

Allen and Shirley lived in Winona prior to moving to rural Blair in 1966. Allen was employed as a mechanic since he was 18 years old. He worked for the NECO Ordinance Co. in Winona, MN and for Amos Kolve in Blair. He also worked in Milwaukee and at Fort McCoy. Prior to his retirement, Allen was a diesel mechanic for Mathy Construction.

Allen enjoyed country music, polkas, bird watching and watching the news.

Allen is survived by three daughters, Loreli (John) Clark of Lakeville, MN, Vicki Fawcett of Arcadia and Cindy Slaby of Blair; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and a brother, Morris (Betty) Fremstad of Blair.
In addition to his parents and wife, Allen was preceded in death by an infant son, Dennis; a granddaughter, Shirley Clark, a great-grandson, Devon Quiroz; three brothers, Roy, George and Archie Kelly; a son-in-law, John Slaby.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. in the Jack Funeral Home with burial in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery both in Blair. Pastor Barbara Bruneau will officiate. Friends may call one hour prior to the service.

The Jack Funeral Home in Blair is assisting the family with arrangements.
