Alvin Duane Horn, age 94, of Minneapolis, MN, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2025.

Survived by his wife of 64 years, Elaine; children, Duane (Chris) Horn, Dan (Darcy) Horn, Lisa (Mike) Schurch, Lauri (Martin) Malm, Daryl (Amy) Horn; grandchildren, Kevin, Kelly, Amanda, Meredith, Madeline (Kyle), Anna (Kate), Joseph, Samuel, Alex (Molly), Andrew, Ashley (Justin), Taylor and Madison; great grandchildren, Rhoan, Henry, Ada, Clara, Remington, Vincent and Olive.  Preceded in death by parents, Alvin Sr and Alma Horn; Siblings, Annabelle Albertson and Roger Horn.

Alvin was raised on the family farm in rural Jackson County, Wisconsin.  He joined the army in 1951 and was stationed in Korea during the Korean War where he was awarded the Purple Heart.  When his military service ended he moved to Minneapolis and attended Dunwoody Institute.  After graduation he went to work as an engineer for McQuay where he tested and designed refrigeration and HVAC systems.  He married Elaine Olson on June 24, 1961 at North Beaver Creek Lutheran Church in Ettrick, Wisconsin.  They moved and settled in South Minneapolis where they raised their five children.  During the warmer months Al would roof houses as a second job.  He volunteered his time to his church, Epiphany and Hope Lutheran as a member of the council, church treasurer, sound technician, usher and delivered Meals On Wheels.  Al loved his family.  He would go to the kids' sporting events, music concerts or any other activity they were in.  He also helped with school and scouting projects such as making snow shoes and Pine Wood Derby cars.  He loved playing checkers, cards and other games with his grandkids.  He would even give them rides in his wheelbarrow or push them in the backyard tire swing. He was a smart, funny and kind man.Al liked to help others.  If family or friends needed help with a project or if something didn't work he would pick up his traveling tool box (which always had just what was needed) and head over to go to work.  He could fix anything.  Al enjoyed having a cup of coffee or an occasional beer with us and wanted to know how we were doing and what the grandkids were up to.  He was truly interested in what was going on in our lives. When he wasn't doing all of these things you could find Al in the garage working on his cars or in his yard tending to his lawn and garden.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at Easter Lutheran Church on the Hill, 4200 Pilot Knob Rd in Eagan.  Visitation will begin at 1pm, followed by a service at 2pm.  The service will be livestreamed on Easter Lutheran's You Tube Channel:  https://www.youtube.com/@easterlutheranchurch/streamsFollowing the service, we will continue to celebrate Al's life with refreshments where family and friends are invited to gather and share memories.

On Saturday, March 15, 2025, Alvin will be laid to rest in the North Beaver Creek First Lutheran Cemetery following a visitation at 1:30 p.m. and a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. in the North Beaver Creek First Lutheran Church in rural Ettrick, Wisconsin.  Military rites will be conducted by the Runnestrand-Peterson American Legion Post #354. A luncheon will be served following the graveside ceremony.
