Alvin Leonard Samples Sr., age 82, of Blair, died on Monday, January 12, 2015 in the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in LaCrosse.

Al was born on April 29, 1932 in Elkins, NM to Charles Henry and Betty Pearl (Glasscock) Samples. He served his country in the United States Navy. Al worked in construction for many years and went on to run his own motorcycle shop in New Mexico and roofing businesses in Texas, New Mexico and Nevada.

Al enjoyed riding motorcycles in his earlier years. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. After retiring, Al enjoyed gathering with his family and friends to play cards and cribbage.

Al was a loving father and grandfather and is survived by his children, Debbie Nadeau of Neillsville, Michelle Thayer of Blair, Alvin "Jay" Samples Jr. of Blair, Chuck Samples of Whitehall, Jackie Samples of Arcadia, John Samples of Blair and Danielle Pittenger of Whitehall. He is also survived by his 19 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Al was preceded in death by a brother, John and a daughter, Ranae.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 21, 2015 from 4-6 p.m. in the Jack Funeral Home in Blair.
