Berniece Marie Matson, age 93, of Taylor, died on Wednesday, August 27, 2014 in her home.

Berniece was born on September 25, 1920 in Big Slough, rural Taylor, WI to John and Bertha (Knutson) Matson.

Berniece wanted to go to school with her older siblings, so at the age of four she started first grade. She graduated from the Taylor High School and went to cosmetology school. After returning home to care for her mother, she was offered the position of post master in Taylor where she served for 40 years.

Berniece was a member of the Taylor Lutheran Church and the Hanson-Lien American Legion Post #368 Auxiliary. She loved to travel with trips to Hawaii, Norway and throughout the United States. Fondly known by her family as "Auntie B", she hosted numerous family reunions and was always willing to play catch, shoot a basket, read a book or rock a child to sleep.

Berniece married Elwood "Fred" Fisher on November 8, 2000 in Taylor. Fred preceded Berniece in death on June 9, 2010.

Berniece is survived by a sister-in-law, Sandra Matson of The Woodlands, TX; a very special cousin, Irene Kiefer of LaCrosse; local nieces and nephews, Carol (Paul) Wisniewski and their son, Jacob all of Taylor; David (Tammy) Matson and their children, Nolan, Neal and Logan all of Neillsville, Linda (Joe) Kane and Doris Skogstad both of LaCrosse; along with numerous other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, Berniece was preceded in death by her five siblings, Anna (Lester) Hanson, Norman (Henrietta and LaVerle) Peder (Julia), John (Emily) and Henry (Shirley).

Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 1, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the Taylor Lutheran Church with Pastor Benjamin Ahles-Iverson officiating. Burial will be in the Trempealeau Valley Lutheran Cemetery in rural Taylor.
