Betty Elaine Skadahl
Betty Elaine Skadahl, 84, of Whitehall, passed away on Monday, March 4th, 2013 at the Gundersen Tri-County Care Center in Whitehall.
She was born April 25th, 1928 in Whitehall to Ernest (Bappa) Goplin and Esther (Nannie) Dahl Goplin. Elaine was married to James Haugen Skadahl on August 28th, 1948 and they have resided in Whitehall for 64 years in the home that Jim built.
Elaine was active in the Ladies Hospital Auxiliary and other church activities at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church and shared her gift of knitting with many brand new babies born at the Whitehall Hospital.
Elaine had a quiet, enduring spirit, and her passions were caring for family and friends. She loved giving gifts of Fudge Square Brownies and knitted sweaters, afghans, footies and baby booties. She was an avid book reader and enjoyed time spent with her Kindle.
Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Esther Goplin. She is survived by her husband, Jim; son, Richard (Mary), of Eau Claire, daughter, Virginia (Robert) Potts of Orinda, CA; son, Kim (Cynthia), of Rothschild. Six grandchildren, Melissa and Matthew Skadahl, Eau Claire, Ashley Potts, Orinda, CA; Kai (Nick) Stanecki, Madison; Kirsten (Kyle) Jansen, (baby Jansen due in May)Weston; and Luke (Nicole) Skadahl and one great-grandchild, Jack Skadahl, Wausau.
She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, close friends and neighbors who cared for Elaine and her family whenever needed. We are especially thankful for Dave and Linda Schaefer, who have loved, encouraged, and cared for our family for many years.
A service to celebrate Betty Elaine's life will be held on Saturday, March 9th, 2013 at 1pm, with Pastor Kris Fahey, officiating at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 36197 Main St. Whitehall. Visitation will be at Jack Funeral Home, 35890 S. Abrams St., Whitehall on Friday, March 8th from 4-7pm and again at the Church from 12 pm until the time of service. Memorials may be given to the Gundersen Tri-County Care Center or to Our Saviour's Lutheran Church. Jack Funeral Home of Whitehall is serving the family.
