Clark Albert Kohnert, age 77, of Pigeon Falls, died on Monday, March 7, 2016 in the Trempealeau County Health Care Center in Whitehall.

Clark was born on June 11, 1938 in North Bend, Jackson County, WI, the youngest child of Gustav A. and Celia A. (Sonnenberg) Kohnert. He graduated from the Melrose High School in 1956. Clark married Gloria M. Jennings on November 15, 1956 in the Melrose Methodist Church in Melrose. Gloria preceded Clark in death on December 21, 2012.

Clark enlisted in the United States Army in November of 1956. He completed basic training at Fort Chaffee, AR and was stationed at Fort Bragg, NC. Clark completed Jump School and served with the 82nd. Airborne. He was also certified as a heavy equipment operator. Clark was stationed in Munich, Germany and Beirut, Lebanon. He received his parachutist badge and the Good Conduct medal.

Clark was a "people person" and was employed as a Surge dealer and managed grocery stores for Copps Distributing in Shawano, Stevens Point, Neillsville and Black River Falls. He established Kohnert & Sons store in Pigeon Falls in 1975. Clark was known for his golf cart business, KEP Co. and served on the Tri-County Telephone Board of Directors, the Trempealeau County Dairy Promotion Committee (the dairy breakfast pancake chef), the Pigeon Falls Lion's Club and the Pigeon Falls Volunteer Fire Department.

Clark is survived by four sons, Gene (Susan) Kohnert of Independence, Keith (fiancee`, Ruth Olson) Kohnert of Stoddard, Ramon (Bonnie) Kohnert and Lee (Sue) Kohnert both of Whitehall; eight grandchildren, Dustin, Jared, Kyle, Andrew, Alex, Adam, Donovan and Meagan Kohnert; seven great-grandchildren, Julian, Elliott, Lilly, Presley, Mason, Bridget and Jackson and two upcoming great-grandchildren, Oliver, due in April and Madelyn, due in May; three sisters, Elnor Thompson of Swansboro, NC, Janet (Tom) Cotton of Becker, MN and June (Leslie) Spors of Edgerton and his beloved cat, Oscar.

In addition to his parents and wife, Clark was preceded in death by two sisters, Mavis, in infancy and Lois Ponterio and his beloved rabbit, Oatmeal.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 11, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in Peace Lutheran of Pigeon Falls in Pigeon Falls with Pastor Mary Ann Bowman officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Hutchins-Stendahl American Legion Post #191. Burial will be in the Melrose Cemetery in Melrose.

Visitation will be Thursday, March 10, 2016 from 4-7 p.m. in the Jack Funeral Home in Whitehall and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.

Clark's family would like to thank the staff at the Pigeon Falls Health Care Center and the Trempealeau County Health Care Center for all of the compassionate care over the past year.
