Darrel Wayne Nerby, age 66, of rural Taylor, passed on from this life on earth to eternal life on Saturday, February 8, 2014 in his rural Taylor home.

Darrel was born on May 17, 1947 in Altadena, CA to Julian and Helen (Jacobson) Nerby. Helen and the children moved back to Wisconsin when the boys were young. Darrel was baptized and confirmed in the Pigeon Creek Evangelical Lutheran Church in Pigeon Falls. He graduated from the Taylor High School in 1965 after which he enlisted into the United States Marine Corp and was deployed to Viet Nam, serving two tours of duty for our country. When he returned home he married Sue Ann Hughes on September 19, 1970 in the North Bend Church in North Bend, WI.

Darrel and Sue moved to rural Taylor where they raised their three children, John, Wyett and Matthew. Darrel and Sue farmed until a fire claimed the barn. Darrel was active in the Black River Falls Disabled American Veterans of which he had served as a past commander.

Darrel's passion was to spend time with family and being able to be outdoors to hunt and fish. He also had a passion for the music of Johnny Cash.

Darrel is survived by his wife, Sue; three sons, John (Kim) of Holmen, Wyett (Jennifer) of Taylor and Matthew (Lessie) of Ettrick; five grandchildren, Helayna, Naleah, Issac, Lindsey and Dallas; his mother, Helen Johnson of Bangor; three sisters, Mary (Thomas) Jones of Onalaska, Nadine Smith and Ruby (James) Kerkman both of Bangor; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to his father, Darrel was preceded in death by a brother, Julian "Jay" Nerby, a grandson, Dylan Nerby, his step-father, Oliver Johnson and his father and mother-in-law, Gilbert and Hope Hughes.

Memorial services will be held on Friday, February 14, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the Trempealeau Valley Lutheran Church with Pastor Ben Ahles-Iverson officiating. Burial with military honors will be held at a later date.

Visitation will be Thursday, February 13, 2014 from 4-7 p.m. in the Jack Funeral Home in Blair and also one hour prior to the services at the church on Friday.
