David Gene Berg, age 77, of Pleasantville, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Tuesday, November 14, 2017.

David was born at home in Pleasantville to Ted and Nina (Olson) Berg on September 3, 1940, one of 13 children. He graduated from the Whitehall High School in 1958. After high school, David moved to Janesville where he was employed at the General Motors plant until 1966.

David married Janet Bergerson on September 21, 1963 in the Upper Pigeon Creek Lutheran Church in Northfield. They moved to the family farm in Pleasantville in 1966. David was the 4 ^th generation on the farm.

David was a lifetime member of the Elk Creek Lutheran Church in rural Osseo and served as council president, deacon and secretary. He was also a member of the Elk Creek Cemetery Association, was a charter member of the Pleasantville Lion's Club, a member of the town of Hale Volunteer Fire Department and served as chairman for the town of Hale.

David enjoyed sports and was the catcher for the Pleasantville softball team.

David is survived by his wife of 54 years, Janet; four children, Lisa (Robin), Jeff (Lori), Staci (Lonnie) and Darci; ten grandchildren, Landon (Jennifer), Kelsey (Dan), Keaton, Kenny (Brandi), Kevin (Jessica), Cameron (Nicole), Kailee, Drew, Kennedy and Piper; four great-grandchildren, Braydon, Perry, Henry and Layla; a brother, Vernal (Rita) Berg; six sisters, Ethel Achilly, Ruth (Rod) Thompson, Beverly (James) Combs, Phyllis (Everett) Schleef, Diane Harding and Cathy (Pete) Stedman.

In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by five brothers, Kenneth, Laurel, Lloyd, Robert and James Berg.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Elk Creek Lutheran Church with the funeral to follow at 1:00 p.m. Pastor Valerian Ahles will be officiating.

The Jack Funeral Home in Whitehall is assisting the family with arrangements.
