David Henry Clipper, age 53, of Whitehall, died on Monday, August 31, 2015 in the Gundersen Tri-County Hospital in Whitehall.

David was born on January 29, 1962 in LaCrosse to Maynard and Virginia (Stai) Clipper. He moved to Whitehall with his parents in July of 1964.

David went to school in Whitehall where he participated in band playing the bass. He said he would rather be carrying a flute in parades but was scheduled to keep playing the bass. David was part of back to back championships in both football and basketball graduating in 1980. He started working in the family grocery store as a small child. By the time he was ten years old he had a schedule of regular hours to work at the store. The schedule of hours increased as he grew older and he knew he wanted to make his living the grocery business.

David married Annette Buisse on June 9, 1984 in Whitehall. They have one son, Benjamin. Annette worked at the store with Dave and they contracted to buy the business in October of 1992. Dave followed his father's example and was willing to make changes to better serve the people of the area.

Dave liked to hunt and fish and belonged to the Whitehall Pigeon Rod and Gun Club for many years. He and wife bought a farm and enjoyed making a homemade golf course and played on it for years. They started with a camper and enjoyed being on the acreage so much they built a cabin there. Dave enjoyed pheasant hunting and his hunting dogs, golden retrievers and springer spaniels. He raised and released hundreds of pheasants and traveled to various locations to hunt with good friends.

David was awarded Citizen of Year along with his wife and parents at the 2015 Beef and Dairy Days pageant in recognition of outstanding business involvement in the community. They gave food to the needy at Christmas and he helped many fundraisers held in the area.

David is survived by his wife, Annette; a son, Benjamin (Megan); his mother, Virginia; a sister, Kay; his parents-in-law, Joyce and Dick Buisse; brother-in-law, Shawn (Cheryl); sisters-in-law, Amy (Larry), Krystal (Steve), Connie (Del) and Susan (Richard).

In addition to his father, David was preceded in death by a brother, Craig.

Visitation will be held on Friday, September 4, 2015 from 4-7 p.m. in the Jack Funeral Home in Whitehall. A private family gathering will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2015.
