David Dalhart Dahl, age 89, of Blair, passed away peacefully of natural causes on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at Emplify Health in Whitehall.

"We lost a man with a heart of gold, and how much we will miss him could never be told. He raised us with love and helped us along; if we follow in his footsteps, we will never go wrong."

David was born on February 27, 1936, in Whitehall to Philip and Muriel (Hanson) Dahl. He grew up in the area and later proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army.

He graduated from Blair High School in 1954. He played football, basketball and FFA basketball.

On January 12, 1957, David was united in marriage to Patricia Faye Olson at Zion Lutheran Church in Blair. Together they shared 66 years of marriage, building a life rooted in faith, hard work, laughter, and deep devotion to family. In their retirement years, David and Pat enjoyed traveling, spending time in Texas, South Padre Island, and Mexico, creating lasting memories side by side. They enjoyed music and dancing, especially old-time tunes, classic country, and polka—he and Pat were well known for being able to "cut a rug" together on the dance floor. Patricia preceded him in death on August 27, 2023.

David began his career as a cheesemaker and drying plant manager in Blair before continuing his work in Turtle Lake and later Arlington, Iowa. Known for his strong work ethic and reliability, he took pride in providing for his family and giving his best wherever he worked.

A lifelong sportsman, David enjoyed the outdoors and remained active throughout his life. He was a bear, deer and small gamehunter and enjoyed fishing. He was an avid trapshooter and a dedicated member of the Blair Sportsmen's Club. He also coached women's softball and faithfully followed sports as a diehard Packer, Badger, and Brewer fan. David was also an enthusiastic golfer and held memberships at various golf clubs over the years. He also enjoyed puzzles and witty riddles, always ready to stump you on the latest one.

Family and friends were at the heart of David's life. He especially treasured time spent returning to the picturesque hills of Tappen Coulee, where laughter, stories, and togetherness filled his happiest days. He had a quick wit and playful spirit, earning a reputation as a good-natured prankster who loved to make others smile, and you could actually see his belly laugh following.

One of David's greatest gifts to his family was his dedication to capturing life's moments. Through video and photography, he carefully recorded family milestones so memories could be treasured for generations to come.

David is survived by his loving family, who will forever cherish his steady presence, humor, and unconditional love. A son, Bruce Dahl of Elk Mound; two daughters, Sandra Thomley of Blair and Connie (fiancé Rick Winegar) Schullo of Birchwood; six grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, David was preceded in death by an infant son, Jeffrey Tyler; a sister, Sylvia Hoesley and a brother, Gary Dahl.

The family wishes to thank the devoted caregivers at the Grand View Care Center whose kindness and compassion were a blessing. David's family respectfully requests that no cards be sent. Those wishing to honor his memory are invited to donate to the charity of their choice.

Graveside services with military honors will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2026 at 11:30 a.m. in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Blair.  A luncheon and time of fellowship will be follow the services at the Preston Town Hall in Blair.
