David Gerald Giese 2/27/1939 – 7/12/2016

David Gerald Giese, age 77, of Pigeon Falls, died on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 in his home.

David was born February 27, 1939 in Whitehall, WI to Lyman and Esther (Johnson) Giese. He attended the Daggett Coulee Grade School and graduated from Whitehall High School in 1957. David married Judith Ann Neperud on January 8, 1961 in Pigeon Falls, WI. David and Judy previously lived in Whitehall, Pigeon Falls, Monona and returned to reside in rural Pigeon Falls on their farm in Daggett Coulee.

David worked for Vernon Olson, American Motors, The Pigeon Falls Creamery, Briggs Transportation and The Trempealeau County Highway Department from where he retired after 21 years. He also farmed and raised cattle from 1980 until present.

David was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Pigeon Falls and cemetery caretaker for many years, something he took great pride in. He was an avid follower of all sports that represented Whitehall and could be found attending many events. David enjoyed hunting and travelled many years out west on his hunting trips where he enjoyed making memories with family and friends. David and Judy made many memories throughout the years while they enjoyed camping. He liked his "morning coffee" and catching up with his friends in Pigeon Falls and especially enjoyed going to church suppers with his great friend Roger Iverson. He truly cherished the time he was able to spend with his family and loved his children and grandchildren dearly.

David is survived by his three children, Brian (Karla) Giese of Stevensville, MT, Matthew (Rhonda) Giese of Whitehall and Nancy (Rory) Thelen of Campbellsport; six grandchildren, Adam Giese, Ethan & Taylor Giese, Lucas & Elizabeth Matchey & Leo Thelen; three siblings, Kenneth (Marlys) Giese of Whitehall, Lloyd (Christine) Giese of Pigeon Falls and Edith Giese of Rice Lake; an Aunt Dorothy Tomten of Winona, MN; brothers and sisters-in-law, Patricia Abrahamson of Whitehall, Sara Neperud of Beaver Dam, Carol (Roger) Guse of Pigeon Falls, David (Janet) Neperud of Tuscon, AZ and Ken (Lois) Neperud of Whitehall; several nieces and nephews.

David was preceded in death by his loving wife of 53 years, his parents, his in-laws, Helmer & Irene Neperud; brothers-in-law, Peter Neperud, Donald Neperud, Donald Abrahamson and John Neperud.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in Peace Lutheran of Pigeon Falls with burial in the Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery both in Pigeon Falls. Pastor Mary Ann Bowman will officiate.

Visitation will be Friday, July 15, 2016 from 4-7 p.m. in the Jack Funeral Home in Whitehall and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
