David Lee Olson, age 57, of York, died on Friday, June 28, 2013 in the Gundersen Tri-County Care Center in Whitehall after a twelve year battle with adrenal cancer.

David was born on October 21, 1955 in Luther Hospital in Eau Claire to Vernon L. and Avis E. (Olson) Olson. His first years were spent on Uncle Lincoln's farm in rural Osseo and later in the city of Osseo where he attended elementary school until Christmas break of third grade. On January 1, 1964 the family moved to Timber Creek north of York and took over Grandpa Ed's farm. From here David attended grade school at York-Northfield-Pigeon Falls graduating from the Whitehall Memorial High School in 1973.

After high school, David worked for a year at Floral Farms in Pigeon Falls and also helped with farming until his dad retired. In 1977, he was elected town of Northfield treasurer, a position he held for 28 years until retiring. In 1986, he began working for the Tiffany Tie and Lumber Co., continuing there until 2000 when he began employment at the Trempealeau County Sheriff's Department as a dispatcher and jailer. He continued with the Sheriff's Department until 2008 when his health would no longer allow him to work.

David's most important part of his life was his faith in the Lord Jesus, and he served the church in many ways, including council, Sunday School, choir and singing soloist. He enjoyed music and sang for many years with the Stouthearted Men and Jubilate Advent Singers. David often sang at weddings and funerals, estimating that he had sung at 400-500 funerals. This, he saw as ministry.

In addition to his involvement with the church, David was supportive in his community, serving on the York-Northfield Recreatoin Club board and the Northfield Booster Club. He was serving on the Whitehall School Board at the time of his death. David was very proud of his Norwegian heritage and made five trips to Norway where he felt blessed to find living relatives on several branches of the family tree along with ancestoral churches and farms.

David was a member of Landingslag, Totenlag and the Osseo Sons of Norway where he served as president and Speale until his passing.

In the later years, David greatly enjoyed the antique classic tractor rides in the community and often had the pleasure of leading some on the back country roads. Seeing the classic tractors of the 30's, 40's, 50's and 60's painted up and restored as a real art, he found enjoyment in having some himself. David enjoyed watching sports, especially the Badgers, Packers and the Whitehall Norsemen. He was also a bit of a displaced Twins fan.

David is survived by his mother, Avis Olson of Pigeon Falls; a sister, Susan (Marty) Mickelson of Northfield; a nephew Ryan (Stephanie Kosares) Mickelson of Northfield; a niece, Tiffany (Michael) Huppert of Ellsworth;
a special aunt-cousin, Melva Olson of Pigeon Falls; two uncles, Spencer Olson of Osseo and Maynard Monson of Hazel Green; several cousins.

In addition to his grandparents and father, David was preceded in death by a still-born brother, Randall.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in Peace Lutheran of Pigeon Falls. Pastors David Johnson and Roger Benrud will officiate. Burial will be in the Northfield Lutheran Cemetery in Northfield.

Visitation will be Monday, July 1, 2013 from 4-8 p.m. in the church and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
