Donald Leroy Hertzfeldt, age 70, of rural Ettrick, died peacefully at home on Sunday, July 29, 2012 after his battle with cancer.

Donald was born on September 5, 1941 at home in Coral City to Clarence and Marie (Kurth) Hertzfeldt. He went to school in both Trempealeau and Jackson County.

Don served in the United States Navy from 1959 to 1962.

Don and Dicky Martin operated the Texaco in Blair where he met the love of his life, Catherine Berg. They were married April 8, 1967 in the First Lutheran Church in Blair.

Don worked as a lineman for over thirty years before retiring to farm full time which was his passion. He loved wildlife and farming and could watch his Charolais for hours. Don was also a Green Bay Packers fan and enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports for the Blair-Taylor Wildcats. He also loved to play cards, bowl, deer hunt and snowmobile.

Don was a devoted husband, father and grandfather!
Don is survived by his wife of 45 years, Catherine, of Ettrick; two daughters, Peggy (Cory) Johnson and Pamela (Jared) Paulson both of Ettrick; seven grandchildren, Sarena Paulson of Peoria, AZ, Jacob (fiancé, Erin Connor) Paulson of Ettrick, Spencer Paulson of Twenty Nine Palms, CA, Jordon Paulson, Jalissa Paulson, Emma Johnson and Cole Johnson all of Ettrick; two great-grandchildren, Brayden and Quinn Paulson of Ettrick; three brothers, Duane (Gloria) Hertzfeldt of Melrose, Larry (Bobbie) Hertzfeldt and David (Pat) Hertzfeldt both of Ettrick; three sisters, Marie (Alan) Baronsky of Kenosha, Darlene (friend, Leroy) Marzini of Loyal and Sharon Hertzfeldt of Ettrick; three brothers-in-law, Mike Berg of Blair, Kennedy Berg of Whitehall and John (Kathy) Berg of Blair; two sisters-in-law, Roxy (Allan) Tranberg of Abbotsford and Sue (Bobby) Tranberg of Blair; many special nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents. Donald was preceded in death by two brothers, Tim and Sonny; a sister, Joyce Stevens and his father and mother-in-law, Myron and Carrol Berg.

Memorial services will be held on Friday, August 3, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the North Beaver Creek Parish Faith Lutheran Church with Pastor Elizabeth Albertson officiating. Burial with military honors conducted by the Runnestrand-Peterson American Legion Post #354 will be in the Pioneer Cemetery in the town of Franklin, Jackson County, WI.

Visitation will be Thursday, August 2, 2012 from 4-8 p.m. in the Jack Funeral Home in Blair and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
