Doris Mary Fonfara, age 83, of Whitehall, died on Sunday, January 7, 2018 in the Gundersen Tri-County Care Center in Whitehall.

Doris was born on April 21, 1934 in North Creek, WI to John and Anna (Wiersgalla) Olson. She graduated from the Arcadia High School in 1951. Doris married Wilfred "Bill" J. Fonfara on October 7, 1952 in Saint Michael's Catholic Church in North Creek. Bill preceded Doris in death on December 12, 1999.

Doris was employed with the Whitehall Times, Ellison Insurance Agency and First Financial Bank in Whitehall and Associated Bank in Arcadia. Doris and Bill also owned and operated the East Side Grocery Store in Whitehall.

Doris was a member of Saint John's Catholic Church in Whitehall and was active in its choir, was a lay minister and a past president of the PCCW. She was also a past president of the Arcadia Deanery. Doris also served as an election official, working every election for many years.

Doris is survived by her son, Thomas (Robin) Fonfara; two grandchildren, Phillip and Annie Fonfara; several nephews and nieces, Marc (Donna) Shepherd, John (Pam) Shepherd, Sharon Fowlkes, Alan Shepherd, Julie (Mike) Raasch, Ray (Diane) Fonfara, David (Cathy) Fonfara, Elaine (Hank) Todd, Sandy Fonfara, Sharon Fonfara and Marie Jaszewski.

In addition to her parents and husband, Doris was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Shepherd and a nephew, Eddie Fonfara.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, January 11, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. in Saint John's Catholic Church with burial in the Lincoln Cemetery both in Whitehall. Father Kennedy will officiate.

Visitation will be Wednesday, January 10, 2018 from 4-7 p.m. in the Jack Funeral Home in Whitehall where a Christian prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. followed by a parish rosary. Friends may also call one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.

Doris's family would like to express their deep appreciation to family and friends who have helped Doris remain in her home and in the community she loved.
