Dorothy Avis Halvorson, age 92, of Blair, died on Monday, January 30, 2017 in the Grand View Care Center in Blair.

Dorothy was born on June 24, 1924 in rural Blair to Nicholai and Minnie (Wivelstad) Hagen. She married Melvin G. Halvorson who preceded Dorothy in death on September 30, 2005.

Dorothy was employed with the REA for 32 years as a meter reader. She enjoyed gardening, tending to her flowers, reading, dancing, listening to old time music and going out for coffee.

Dorothy is survived by four children, Richard (Blenda) Johnson of Four Oaks, NC, Eugene (Linda) Johnson of Blair, Tony (Rita) Halvorson of Taylor and Kay (Roger) Stewart of Onalaska; nine grandchildren, Christopher Johnson, Kenneth (Kathy) Johnson, Kirstin Parrott, Traci (Theron) Marthaler, Patti Johnson, Nikki Johnson, Tammy (Brendt) Miller, Justin (Ashley) Stewart and Kyle Stewart; twelve great-grandchildren, Tyler (Kayla) Johnson, Chandler Parrott, Katy (Aaron) Arthur, Tyler (Shiloh Sobotta) Marthaler, Tiana Marthaler, Roy Olson, Aaliyah Borntreger, Mackenzie Borntreger, Glen Miller, Christopher Miller, Tenley Stewart and Kyan Stewart; four great-great-grandchildren, Jace Johnson, Jocelyn Marthaler, Mason Arthur and Brodie Kate Arthur; a brother-in-law, Willard Johnson of Ettrick; two sisters-in-law, Alice Halvorson of Augusta and Irene Thompson of Blair; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by twelve siblings, Nordahl Hagen, Melford Hagen, Olga (Ludwig) Ericksmoen, Nina (Albert) Hermanson, Mabel (Spencer) Knutson, Maynard (Marie) Hagen, Gladys (Helmer) Hermanson, Hartley (Phyllis) Hagen, Adeline (Norman) Nelson, Donald Hagen, Norris Hagen and Mavis Johnson and a grandson-in-law, Broderick Parrott.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. in Blair Lutheran Church East with burial in the Rest Haven Cemetery both in Blair. Pastor Peter Jonas will officiate.

Visitation will be Friday, February 3, 2017 from 4-7 p.m. in the Jack Funeral Home in Blair and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
