Edgar Gilmore Goplin, age 93, of Pigeon Falls, died on Tuesday, September 1, 2015 in the Pigeon Falls Health Care Center in Pigeon Falls.

Edgar was born on February 7, 1922 in the town of Hale, Trempealeau County, WI to Edward and Ella (Eid) Goplin. He married Charlotte Arline Johnson on Saturday, June 4, 1949 in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Pigeon Falls. They were the first couple to be married in the church. The next day, Sunday, which was the first service held at the church, they carried the first baby to be baptized into church.

Edgar will always be remembered as a gentle- giant. He was a strong man who worked hard for many years farming with the "country neighbors" who all helped each other. He made endless woodpiles which still stand spotted throughout the area as a memory of his warm heart. Edgar loved his tractors and field work from the first horses that he used to plow in the early days, to mowing the lawns each week and time spent in the packing tractor as each family member watched in admiration. No matter how late the day and important the work, he always made time to stop for a visit and to ask how you were.

Edgar had a soft heart that was filled with pride in his family. Often he would shed a tear of pride and happiness at each family gathering. Edgar always had a positive attitude and never complained about anything. He enjoyed weekly trips to the casino and Sunday brunch outings. Edgar and Charlotte never missed the opportunity to attend a community event and often commented on the way out the door, "you almost gotta go!"

Edgar is survived by his wife, Charlotte; a son, Nathan (Judy) Goplin of Osseo, three daughters, Naurine Schroeder of Galesville, Juline (David) Schroeder of Whitehall and Darline (Jim) Knudtson of Marshfield; nine grandchildren, Robert (Nicole) Goplin, Tammy (friend, Jeff Korb) Goplin, Shane (Melinda) Goplin, Jamie (Darcy) Goplin, Chris (Nicole) Schroeder, Tanya (Colin) Malaney, Kevin (Heather) Schroeder, Karyn Schroeder and Michelle (John) Deering; 17 great-grandchildren, a great-great-granddaughter, a daughter-in-law, Judy Goplin of Osseo, a brother-in-law, Wally Johnson of Blair and two nephews, Thomas (Tekla) Baken and Eric (Jackie) Baken both of Pigeon Falls.

In addition to his parents, Edgar was preceded in death by a son, Nolan; a son-in-law, Michael Schroeder; a great-great-granddaughter, Ariyah Nolynn Goplin-West; a sister, Esther (Hank) Jacobson and a sister-in-law, Phyllis Johnson.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. in Peace Lutheran of Pigeon Falls with burial in the Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery both in Pigeon Falls. Pastor Mary Ann Bowman will officiate.

Visitation will be Monday, September 7, 2015 from 4-8 p.m. in the Jack Funeral Home in Whitehall and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
