Edward Jacob Ausderau, age 90, of Whitehall, died on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at Gundersen Health System in LaCrosse.

Edward was born on May 3, 1923 in St. Paul, MN to Edward and Ursula (Wieland) Ausderau. He married Delores Kaegbein on June 12, 1946 in Fredric, WI.

Edward graduated as valedictorian from Colfax High School in Colfax, WI. He attended and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a masters degree in soil economics.

Ed and Delores moved to the state of Oregon for a year where he was employed with the Dairy Herd Inspection Agency, later moving to Arcadia, WI where he taught agriculture classes for veterans returning from World War II. They moved to Whitehall in 1954 where Edward was employed with the Trempealeau County Extension Office until his retirement in 1984.

Edward was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church and was active in its various organizations. He was a past member of the Whitehall Lions Club and was named Citizen of the Year in 2010. Edward was a member of the Trempealeau County Democratic Party and was the chief election inspector for the city of Whitehall for many years. Ed was a member of the Trempealeau County Historical Society, performed and coordinated tax assistance through AARP, volunteered for the Whitehall 6th grade campout and weekly read and recorded the Osseo newspaper for the visually impaired. Ed also volunteered for the Red Cross Bloodmobile and was a 15 gallon blood donor. He enjoyed many hobbies such as crossword puzzles, reading, gardening, yoga, biking, and walking. Ed was also an avid supporter of Whitehall Norse athletics.

Edward is survived by his wife, Delores, three children, Sharon (Rick) Mathson of Mounds View, MN, Bruce (Margaret) Ausderau of Whitehall and Brian (Anne) Ausderau of Albuquerque, NM; four grandchildren, Stacey (Jeff) Tidball, Ben Mathson, Karla (Todd Powers) Ausderau and Kristoff (Nikki) Ausderau; six great-grandchildren, Edward and Adam Tidball, Jackson Powers, Aryana, Karston and Bryquelle Ausderau.

In addition to his parents, Edward was preceded in death by a sister, Rosa Abley.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 13, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Whitehall with Pastor Yvonne Marshall officiating.

Visitation will be Sunday, January 12, 2014 from 4-7 p.m. in the Jack Funeral Home in Whitehall and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.

The Jack Funeral Home in Whitehall is assisting the family with arrangements.
