Edward James Johnson, age 77, of Whitehall, died on Thursday April 16, 2020 in the Pigeon Falls Health Care Center in Pigeon Falls,

Edward was born on August 4, 1942 in Whitehall to Jimmy and Edna (Christianson) Johnson. Edward graduated from the Whitehall School and served in the United States Army National Guard.

Edward married Dorothy Muller on June 17, 1967 in Milaca, MN and was employed at AMPI in Blair for forty-two years prior to his retirement.

Edward was a member of the Blair Lutheran Church in Blair. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed bear, deer, and turkey hunting. Edward also enjoyed his time attending and monitoring the meetings of Wisconsin Conservation Congress. He had skills as a handyman and enjoyed knowing how things worked and when needed, he would fix them, which friends and family always appreciated.

Together Edward and Dorothy enjoyed camping, traveling, and spending time with family.  He enjoyed good conversation and would make friends wherever he went.  He was a Green Bay Packers and Wisconsin Badgers fan and would occasionally watch a Minnesota Vikings game.  Ed loved his pets, especially his dog, Annie.

His grandchildren were very important to him and he would often travel long distances to attend their basketball games and show their support for the Richland Center Hornets. His grandchildren were extremely thankful to have him in their lives and will always remember him as their biggest fan. They will miss his phone calls, jokes, and his laugh the most.

Edward is survived by his wife Dorothy; two children, Karn (Richard) Schauf of Richland Center and Eric (Jodie) Johnson of Osseo; three grandchildren, Emily (Mikhail Chabela) Schauf, Allison Schauf, and Jacob Schauf; a brother, Jerome (Arlene Severson) Johnson and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by several aunts, uncles and in-laws.

Private family services will be held in the Jack Funeral Home in Whitehall.  Burial will be in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Blair.    Vicar Paul Sannerud will officiate.   Honorary casket bearers will be Kenneth Giese, Dennis Lyngen, Ken Giese, Gary Giese, Brady Giese, Robbie Maug and Alvin Schrock Jr.  Military rites will be conducted by the Knudtson-Mattison American Legion Post #231.  A celebration of remembrance and thanks will be held in the future at the farm that Ed loved so much.
