Elaine Marie Halvorson, age 88, of Whitehall, died on Thursday, January 3, 2013 in the Pigeon Falls Health Care Center in Pigeon Falls.

Elaine was born on August 23, 1924 in rural Whitehall to Oscar and Mary (Knutson) Steen. She married Ernest C. Halvorson Sr. on September 1, 1942 in Whitehall. Ernest preceded Elaine in death on October 6, 2010.

Elaine and Ernest farmed in Waumandee for 15 years. Elaine was employed at the Sauer Memorial Home, waitressed at the Steak Shop and bartended at Yogi's Barr all in Winona. She also did volunteer work at the Tri-County Memorial Nursing Home in Whitehall for 18 years. Elaine enjoyed embroidery, crocheting, making quilts and afghans and playing cards.

Elaine is survived by four children, Cheryl Bragger of Independence, Ernest (special friend, Agnes) Halvorson Jr. of Blair, Claire (special friend, Don Rinn) Halvorson of Winona and Craig (Cindy) Halvorson of Elk Creek; 18 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and one pending and five great-great-grandchildren and one pending.

In addition to her parents and husband, Elaine was preceded in death by a brother, Ernest Steen; a sister, Mrytle Johnson and two infant sisters; a great-grandson, Samuel Gierok and a son-in-law, Alois Bragger.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Whitehall with Pastor Terry Lorenz officiating. Burial will be in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Blair.
Visitation will be Monday, January 7, 2013 from 4-7 p.m. in the Jack Funeral Home in Whitehall and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
