Elisabeth Maria Hanson, age 83, of the town of Hale, Trempealeau County, WI, died on Thursday, August 16, 2012 in her home.

Elisabeth was born on July 20, 1929 in Rosenheim, Germany to Josef and Elisabeth (Schnelberger) Zoitl.

Residents of Whitehall may remember her face from what once was the Ben Franklin on Main Street or visiting with the residents of the local nursing home where she was known as "The Candy Lady".

Elisabeth took great pride and respect in becoming a citizen of the United States. She never took for granted what she worked so hard to achieve. You could tell that in the way she lived life. She was never one to stand and watch and if there was work to be done, you would find her there. She enjoyed being in the dirt as much as possible. The phrase "a green thumb" doesn't even begin to explain the magnitude of her gardens. Elisabeth had a keen sense for organizing and decorating, she had a way of making something beautiful from nothing but trinkets and scraps. She was a woman of great strength, many talents and a heart as big as the ocean she crossed to get to America.
Elisabeth is survived by her three children, eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, her brother and extended family in Germany.

In addition to her parents, Elisabeth was preceded in death by a brother, Alfred.

Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, August 23, 2012 from 4-7 p.m. in the Jack Funeral Home in Whitehall. Please come join the family to celebrate Elisabeth's amazing life.
