Ella Viola Holstad, age 97, of Whitehall, died on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 in the Gundersen Tri-County Hospital in Whitehall.

Ella was born on July 12, 1919 in Bismarck, ND to Fred and Martha (Foss) Hanson. She married Hiram Holstad in 1937 in Taylor. Together they farmed for many years in rural Whitehall. They later both drove school bus. Ella later became a CNA and was employed at the Golden Age Home and the Trempealeau County Health Care Center prior to her retirement. Hiram preceded Ella in death on October 21, 1977.

Ella was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Whitehall. She enjoyed quilting and making lefse with her church friends. Ella also enjoyed dancing, especially polkas, sometimes several times a week. Where there was old time music, there was Ella.

Ella is survived by four children, Barbara (Howard) Olson of Pigeon Falls, Carol (Verdell) Helstad, Lois (Kenneth) Neperud and Rickey (Debra Holstad) all of Whitehall; 19 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Ella was preceded in death by a son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Cynthia Holstad; six brothers, Harvey, Carl, Wallace, Dallas, Ralph and Floyd Hanson; a sister, Betty Fox; numerous sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 21, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in Our Saviour's Lutheran Church with burial in the Lincoln Cemetery both in Whitehall. Pastor David Christianson will officiate.

Visitation will be Thursday, April 20, 2017 from 4-6 p.m. in the Jack Funeral Home in Whitehall and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
