Ervin Thompson's earthly journey ended peacefully on Monday, December 4, 2017 in the Pigeon Falls Health Care Center in Pigeon Falls.

Ervin was born in Whitehall on August 28, 1938 to Amelia (Davidson) and Palmer Thompson.  He enjoyed living in the Whitehall area throughout his life.

As a young man, Ervin earned a reputation for being a skilled auto mechanic.  Ervin often shared the story (with a smile on his face) of how he started down this path.  His father's pickup truck was not running properly and Ervin, without permission, decided to take the entire engine apart – something he had never done before.   Fortunately, he repaired it and from that point on, Ervin was in high demand as a mechanic.  He worked for several employers in Whitehall including Omer Bidney Mobil, Ray Hagen Chevrolet, Bell Northern Oil, Thompson Bus Services, Hoff Bus Services and Foss Mobil.

Ervin married Antoinette R. Evenson in May, 1972.  Ervin and Toni enjoyed 29 years of marriage before she died in 2011.  In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, George; a half-brother, Phil; his beloved and only sister, Ruby Dean and a step-daughter, LeAnne Stevens. Survivors include nephews Richard (Kathy) Dean, Robert (Gretchen) Dean, Ronald (Mary) Dean; a niece, Sharon (Tom) Williams; step-children, Marlene (Roald) Berg, LeRoy (Ann) Evenson and Gary Evenson; several step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.  Ervin looked forward to his heavenly reunion with Toni!

Ervin possessed a gentle spirit and exhibited kindness at every turn.  He loved people and his friendly disposition brought smiles to many faces.  Even in the face of adversity and pain, Ervin's pleasant demeanor remained steady.  People loved hanging out with Ervin, and thus he enjoyed many friends!  Not to be forgotten, Ervin loved food and music.  Pancakes, a good cheeseburger and malt, a healthy slice of pie with ice cream and a good polka or waltz made Ervin a happy man!  His genuine humility and constant expressions of gratitude will long be revered by those who knew him.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 8, 2017 at 2:30 p.m. in the Jack Funeral Home in Whitehall with Pastor Peter Jonas officiating.  Burial will be in the North Beaver Creek First Lutheran Cemetery in rural Ettrick.

Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service.

The family requests that all memorials go to the Pigeon Falls Health Care Center or Our Saviour's Lutheran Church.
