Ethel M. Jackson, age 97, of Whitehall, died on Sunday, August 17, 2014 in the Grand View Care Center in Blair.

Ethel was born on November 7, 1916 in rural Whitehall to Edward and Manda (Paulson) Everson. She graduated from the Whitehall High School and the LaCrosse Business College.

Ethel married Joel Jackson on June 26, 1937 on the lawn of the Everson home farm in Irvin Coulee. They lived in Chicago, IL for two years and Black River Falls one year before returning to Whitehall.

Ethel was employed at the courthouse and city clerk's office in Whitehall for over 25 years. Upon her retirement, Ethel was a member of the Whitehall Electric Commission and the Library Board. She was also a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church.

Ethel is survived by a daughter, Priscilla (Gerald) Shute of Eagle Point, OR, four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Ethel was preceded in death by a son, Richard and five brothers.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the Jack Funeral Home with burial in the Lincoln Cemetery both in Whitehall. Pastor Toby Ellison will officiate. Friends may call one hour prior to the service.
