Eugene James Leo "Geno" Huson, age 72, of Whitehall passed away on Monday, June 29, 2026.

Gene was born on September 18, 1953 in Philadelphia, PA to Robert F. and Anna Margaret (McDevitt) Huson. He later moved with his family to Arlington, VA where he graduated from Wakefield High School.

In 1976, Gene made Whitehall his home, a community he would proudly serve and cherish for the rest of his life. There, he met Sharon Dean, and the two were married on November 10, 1979. Together they welcomed two children Ross and Liza who were the pride and joy of his life.Although Gene and Sharon later divorced, they remained forever connected through the family they created together.

In his later years, Gene was fortunate to share meaningful friendships and companionship with Cindy Herried, her children Morgan and Wesley, and most recently, Jan Hagen.  Both held a special place in his life, and he cherished the laughter, friendship and memories they shared together.

Gene dedicated more than 30 years of service to the Trempealeau County Health Care Center, where he was known for his strong work ethic and genuine compassion for others. While he took great pride in his career, one of his greatest passions was serving his community as a member of the Whitehall Fire Department. He considered it an honor to answer the call whenever his community needed him.

Outside of work and public service, Gene loved spending time hunting at Sjuggerud Deer Camp where he was "Camp Cook", ice fishing, golfing and cheering on his beloved Wisconsin Badgers, Milwaukee Brewers, and Green Bay Packers. He was happiest when surrounded by friends watching Wisconsin sports, and was always willing to lend a helping hand or share a story that left everyone laughing.

Gene will be remembered for his generous heart and the kindness he showed to everyone he met. He had a remarkable ability to make people feel welcome and valued. Whether leaving a conversation with a smile or ending a phone call, his signature farewell was always, "Go Bucky!"

Gene is lovingly survived by his son, Ross (Megan) Huson, his grandchildren,  Quinn and Reese Huson; his daughter, Liza (Brandon) Francois; his grandchildren Stella and Maximus Francois; his sisters, Patricia Olson of Osseo and Peggy Olevson of Chippewa Falls along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members and countless friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert F. and Anna Margaret (McDevitt) Huson; his brother, Christopher Huson and his beloved former mother-in-law, Ruby Dean.

A Celebration of Gene's Life will be held on Wednesday, August 5, 2026 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Whitehall Fire Department in Whitehall. In true Gene fashion, guests are encouraged to wear their favorite Wisconsin Badgers attire or anything red to honor a man who loved his Badgers, his community and the people around him.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Miney Pientok as well as the entire Whitehall Fire Department for their thoughts and care of Dad over the years. All of you held a very special place in his heart, and we are grateful for everything you did for him. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations are made to the Whitehall Fire Department in honor of Geno.
