Eunice Birdell Egeness age 101, of Blair, died on Sunday, April 30, 2017 in the Gundersen Tri-County Care Center in Whitehall.

Eunice was born on June 14, 1915 in the town of Franklin, Jackson County, WI to Thomas and Ida (Johnson) Sampson.

Eunice married Basil Nyen on February 4, 1932. Together they farmed in Larkin Valley, rural Blair. In 1957, Eunice and Basil decided to quit farming and they started a rest home in Blair which they operated for sixteen years. Basil preceded Eunice in death in 1973. She later married Everett Strittmatter in 1978. Everett preceded Eunice in death in 1987. Eunice later married Stephen Egeness in 1989 who preceded Eunice in death in 1995.

Eunice enjoyed baking, cooking and gardening.

Eunice is survived by four children, Jean Briggs of Whitehall, Sherman (Ginny) Nyen of Holmen, Darrel (Laurie) Nyen of Mauston and Cynthia (Charles) Branch of Rochester, MN; 20 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husbands, Eunice was preceded in death by a son, Wayne; a son-in-law, Wes Briggs; a daughter-in-law, Isedora Nyen; two granddaughters, Louaine Nyen and Sara Mathson; five brothers, Palmer, John, Russell, Eldon and Thomas and five sisters, Lilly, Myrtle, Alice, Verna and Irene.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. in Blair Lutheran Church East with burial in the Rest Haven Cemetery both in Blair. Pastor Mara Ahles-Iverson will officiate. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church.

The Jack Funeral Home in Blair is assisting the family with arrangements.
