Fern M. Aleckson, 78, of rural Blair, died Saturday, December 29, 2018, in the Gundersen Tri-County Hospital in Whitehall.

Fern was born on November 16, 1940, in Trempealeau County, WI, to Martin and Berenice (Herried) Anderson. She married Gary Aleckson on July 6, 1957, in the Zion Lutheran Church in Blair. Gary preceded Fern in death on February 27, 2015.

Fern and Gary farmed in Beaver Creek for many years. She worked as a CNA at the Pine View Care Center in Black River Falls for over 20 years up until her retirement. Fern was active in the church teaching Sunday school, being part of the ELCW, and also holding many roles on the church counsel. She was a board member for the Blair-Taylor school district for nearly 40 years and recently received Wisconsin's school board member of the year award. Fern enjoyed quilting, making lefse, gardening, going on yearly trips with the girls, being a 4-H leader, baking (she was famous for her cookies), and having her morning coffee on the deck of her dream house on the hill where she spent her last two years.

Fern is survived by her four children, Danny of rural Taylor, Billie Jo (Tim) Hague of Hermosa, SD, Darcy Jo Mullins of Hixton and Cody (Stephanie Jahr) Aleckson of Blair; six grandchildren, Zachary, Shane, Harley, Beth, Evan, and Andrea; two great-grandchildren, Oakley and Ella; two nephews, Rod (Holly) and Layne (Cindi) Anderson and a niece Colleen, (Ronald) Hamilton.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Fern was preceded in death by a grandson, Ryan Hague; two brothers, Merlin and Lyle, and a sister, Martha.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 3, 2019 at 11 a.m. in the Upper Beaver Creek Lutheran Church in rural Taylor. Pastor Jeff Forbes will be officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Blair.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 from 4-7 p.m. in the Jack Funeral Home in Blair, and also one hour prior to the funeral service.

The Jack Funeral Home in Blair is assisting the family with arrangements.
