Francis Vernon Foss, age 95, of Fly Creek, died on Thursday, May 31, 2018 in the Gundersen Tri-County Hospital in Whitehall.

Francis was born on July 19, 1922 in Fly Creek to Benone and Lila (Olson) Foss. He attended the Fly Creek School. Francis enlisted with the United States Marine Corps during World War II and served his country in the Pacific Theatre. He was a corporal and received the marksmanship medal.

Francis married Hazel Viola Johnson on December 13, 1947 in Blair. Together they farmed in Fly Creek until 1980. Francis then worked at Cenex in Independence and for seventeen years, he was employed with Trempealeau County Television. Francis also did volunteer driving and played accordion with various bands.

Francis enjoyed listening to old time music, playing his accordion, playing games, attending worship services and just being around people. He especially enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sporting events and fishing and golfing with them.

Francis is survived by a son, Les (Joanne) Foss of Fly Creek; seven grandchildren, Chad (Laura) Foss, Chris Foss, Brandon (April) Foss, Heather Cummings, Jeremy (Amy) Foss, Mandy (JJ) Redemann and Kari (Luke) Kelsey; 14 great-grandchildren, Kade, Kye and Kolden Foss, Harlow and Rylan Foss, Liza, Ava and Owen Cummings, Browyn, Beckham and Monroe Foss, Archer Redemann, Katherine and Jack Kelsey.

In addition to his parents, Francis was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel, on December 17, 2012; two brothers, Basil and Leonard Foss and a sister, Janice Ingram.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Whitehall with Pastor Peter Jonas officiating. Burial with military rites conducted by the Hutchins-Stendahl American Legion Post #191 will be in the Old Whitehall Cemetery in rural Whitehall.

Visitation will be Monday, June 4, 2018 from 5-7 p.m. in the Jack Funeral Home in Whitehall and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
