George A. Olson, age 91, died on Sunday, September 22, 2013 in the Grand View Care Center in Blair, WI. George was born October 13, 1921 in Hayti, South Dakota to Andrew and Julia (Anfinson) Olson. He was Baptized and Confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He attended school in Hayti. George served in the army during WWII from 1942-1945 as a grade Tec 4 tank driver. Members of his tank crew received a personal citation for breaking up an enemy counter attack, enabling the infantry to move forward. He served in the European theatre.
George married Carrol Gunderson Stenberg in Blair, WI December 20, 1958
Following his discharge from the service he farmed with his brother Ernest, He worked with a road construction company for several years and operated the water hauling service from 1970-1979.
George is a member of the Hayti Lutheran Church, American Legion post in Hayti, SD.
George is survived by one step-son Duane (Joany) Stenberg of Blair, WI; two grandsons, Jason (Heather) Stenberg of Portage, WI; Greg (Jenny) Stenberg of West Salem, WI; one granddaughter, Carol (Mark) Hartmann of Baraboo, WI; 4 great Grandsons, 2 great granddaughters; and one sister Gertie Cromatt of Watertown, SD and nieces, nephews and friends.

George was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Carrol, and four brothers.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, September 27, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. in the Blair Lutheran Parish West Building (Zion). Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the church.

Burial will follow the service at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery.

Memorials may be given in George's name to Blair or Hayti Lutheran churches.
