Gloria Jean Herried, 68, of Whitehall passed away peacefully on Friday, September 12, 2014 in the Gundersen Tri-County Care Center in Whitehall.

Gloria was born on September 8, 1946, in Black River Falls to Melvin and Esther (Stenulson) Johnson. Her family purchased a farm in rural Strum where she attended the Eleva-Strum Schools. She married Ardell Dean Herried on March 23, 1963 in the Chimney Rock Lutheran Church in rural Strum.

Gloria was a stay at home mom until after her family was raised. In 1989 she was hired at Northern Engraving in Galesville where she worked until they closed in April 2006. She then was hired at Tri-County Memorial Hospital in Whitehall in the Dietary Department and worked there until December 2011 when she retired. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Our Saviour's Lutheran Church.

Gloria enjoyed being with her family and having them all home for the holidays. She looked forward to Sunday afternoon barbeques as a chance to get together with family. She babysat for many of her grandkids and always had a cookie jar full of cookies for them. She was an avid lefse baker, taught all her kids how to cook and bake, grew a large garden, canned fruits and vegetables and loved crossword puzzles. She was always there for her family.

Survivors include her children, Vickie (Jeffrey) Stalheim of Taylor, Dean (Kimberly) Herried of Rockford, Michigan, Roger (Leah) Herried of Necedah, Jeffery (Jennifer) Herried of Blair and Pamela Herried (friend Butch Gribble) of Pigeon Falls; 15 grandchildren, Jacob Stalheim, Dillion, Mitchell, Jessica and Amanda Herried, Autumn, Noah, Emily, Isaiah and Jack Herried, Wesley, Morgan, Ruby and Nola Herried, Brady Johnson and a sister, Julia Peterson of Arcadia.

Gloria was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Ardell, on December 22, 2012.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Whitehall. The Rev. Yvonne Marshall will officiate. Burial will be in the Old Whitehall Cemetery in rural Whitehall.

Visitation will be held on Monday, September 15, 2014 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Jack Funeral Home in Whitehall and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
