Goodwin J. Anderson, 99, of Whitehall, WI passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 in the Grand View Care Center in Blair.

Goodwin was born August 25, 1917 in rural Whitehall, to Gabriel and Julia (Nelson) Anderson.  He was baptized and confirmed at Independence Lutheran Church, graduated from Sunny Slope Grade School (Plum Creek) and Whitehall Memorial High School.  He then attended River Falls State College and later an agricultural short course at UW Madison.  World War II interrupted  his studies and Goodwin joined the Navy, and was quoted when interviewed by a high school student:  "I never regret enlisting.  I wanted to serve my country and it was my duty as an American citizen to protect my family and my nation."

January 25, 1942, Goodwin married Norma Nyen of Blair. After the war he began working for Tri-State Breeders Coop, first as a technician and then as a direct service salesman; he was also well known for his skill at herd analyzing.  He joined the elite 100,000 Cow Club after driving 45,00 miles a year and wearing out 22 cars.  Even with his busy schedule he had time to serve on the Whitehall City Council for 28 years , serving 4 terms as Mayor.  After his retirement in 1980 he proceeded to earn his appraiser and assessor licenses.

Goodwin is survived by two daughters, Rosemary (Tom)Twesme of Osseo and Jacqueline (Greg) Pavek of Middleton; five grandchildren, Kristin (Fernando) Tibayan of Prescott, Troy (Heather)Twesme of Monument, CO, Mark (Emily)Twesme of Eau Claire, Josh (Katie) Pavek of Verona and Sara (Neil) Jurgella of Middleton;  eleven great-grandchildren and special nephew, James Edward Hegge.

Goodwin was preceded in death by his parents and wife, three sisters, Irene Berg, Carrie Hegge and Lucille Anderson and three brothers, Bennett, Edward and Norman Anderson.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. in the Jack Funeral Home in Whitehall. Pastor Leonard Ellison will officiate. Burial with military rites conducted by the Hutchins-Stendahl American Legion Post #191 will be in the Lincoln Cemetery in Whitehall.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, Goodwin's family requests memorials be directed to the Grand View Care Center in Blair.
