Helen Jeanette Fremstad, age 90, of rural Whitehall, died on Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at her home.

Helen was born on November 5, 1922 in Bear Creek, WI to Peder and Alma (Kjorlie) Knutson and graduated from Blair High School. Helen married Orville A. Fremstad on June 20, 1942 in Blair. Orville preceded Helen in death on February 5, 1997.

Helen and Orville farmed in Curran Valley and later in the town of Pigeon Falls. Helen was also employed at the Tri-County Memorial Hospital as a nurse's aide. She was involved in 4-H and was member of the Peace Lutheran Church of Pigeon Falls being active in its ladies circle and quilting group. Helen enjoyed planting and tending her garden and flowers, watching and feeding the birds on her deck, preparing firewood for the winter and maintaining her property. She loved being outside with nature. She had a giving heart and graciously responded to people in need and those facing adversity. She strived to look for the good in everyone. She was a great cook and enjoyed eHelen is survived by three sons, Ardell (Thelma) of Oxford, MI, Richard (Friend, Juli Stafford) of Ft. Collins, CO and Arne (Mary) of DeSoto, WI; a daughter, Judith (Eugene) Guse of Kennewick, WA; eight grandchildren, Delrae Fremstad, Randy (Friend, Joy Clouse) Fremstad, John (Linda) Fremstad, Cindy (Russell) Hoffman, Shawn (Fiancée, Christian Gaspar) Guse, Jordan, Casey and Jason Fremstad; four great-grandchildren, Ian and Evan Rogan, Olivia Hoffman and Chase Fremstad; a brother, Harold (Mavis) Knutson of La Crescent, MN and a sister-in-law, Norma (Jewel) Berge of Strum.

In addition to her parents and husband, Helen was preceded in death by four sisters, Pearl Pasch, Ruth Kraemer, Esther Berg, and Adeline Dahl; two brothers, Lawrence and Palmer Knutson.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in Peace Lutheran Church with burial in the Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery both in Pigeon Falls. Pastor Roger Benrud will officiate.

Visitation will be Tuesday, May 28, 2013 from 4-7 p.m. at the Jack Funeral Home in Whitehall and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
