Helen B. Johnson from Big Slough, near Pigeon Falls.

The spirit of Helen Bernice (Jacobson) Johnson (age 96) joined
her family in heaven on Nov. 10, 2016. She passed away in the
arms of loved ones and surrounded by the peace of God's love.

Helen was the daughter of Willie and Clara Jacobson. She grew
up in the little green valley called Big Slough with her sisters
Wilma and Verna. In her childhood, she enjoyed training animals
and playing with her cousins.

Helen graduated from the Taylor High School in 1937. She married
Jullian Nerby and had two sons, Jay and Darrel. She married
Oliver Johnson and lived in Big Slough, just miles down the road
from her birthplace. Oliver and Helen had three daughters, Mary,
Nadine and Ruby. In addition to helping on the farm, Helen
worked at the Trempealeau County Health Care Center for many
years.

Helen especially enjoyed spending time with her family. The
Farm was a popular spot for the family to gather. There were
frequent card games, lots of toys, hunting parties and delicious
food when family and friends gathered at the farm.

Helen treasured her church home in Pigeon Falls. She also
enjoyed years of involvement with the Pigeon Flyers 4-H club.
Helen loved children, animals, dancing, music, playing cards,
growing flowers, sewing quilts and she made the best apple pie in
the world. Helen believed in the power of positive thinking and
she showed us all how to love. She embraced her Norwegian
heritage.

Helen's earthly presence will be missed by her daughters, Mary
(Tom Jones), Nadine (Kevin Kuchar ), Ruby (Jim Kerkman) and
SueAnn Nerby; her grandchildren, Clara Nerby (Bryan Tippens),John (Kim) Nerby, Wyett(Jennifer) Nerby, Matthew Nerby,
William (Melissa) Jones, Stephanie (Kurt) Teff, Alex (Angie) Hoff,
Heidi (Justin) Kleinsmith, Tyler (Lauren) Smith, Troy Smith, Talia
Smith, Nerissa (Matthew) Steiger, Katanya (Andy) Morse and
Sawyer Kerkman; her great-grandchildren are Helayna, Naleah,
Isaac, Lindsay, Dallas, Oliver, Trenton, Hadley, Henry, Erik, Eli,
Noelle, Isaiah, Zander and Addelyn.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Oliver;
her sons, Jay and Darrel; her great-grandson, Dylan Nerby and
her sisters, Wilma Berg and Verna Lindberg

Celebrations of Life for Helen Johnson will include a time for
visitation at Jack Funeral Home in Blair, WI on Nov. 21 from
4:30-7:30 PM. The Service of Christian Burial will be held in
Peace Lutheran Church in Pigeon Falls on Tuesday Nov. 22 at
1:00 p.m. with Pastor Glenn Borreson officiating.

Burial will be in the Pigeon Creek Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in Pigeon Falls.
