Helen A. Thoma, age 93, of Whitehall, died on Friday, February 26, 2016 in the Pigeon Falls Health Care Center in Pigeon Falls.

Helen was born on November 3, 1922 in Tamarack, WI to Mike and Tekla (Pehler) Schultz. She married Sam Thoma on November 26, 1940 in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Arcadia. Together they farmed in rural Whitehall until 1989. Sam preceded Helen in death on January 28, 1993.

Helen was a member of Saint John's Catholic Church in Whitehall. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and had a special love for dachshunds. Helen loved quilting, reading and traveling. One of her prized quilts was a hand stitched wedding ring quilt. Helen was known for her homemade bread and won the King Midas award several years at the county fair.

Helen is survived by a son, Richard (Susan) Thoma of Whitehall; two daughters, Barbara (Leigh) Fossen of Shakopee, MN and Doris (Robert) Walske of Whitehall; nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Helen was preceded in death by a son, John; three brothers, Felix, George and Edward Schultz and three sisters, Gertrude Melinger, Eleanor Johnson and Irene Garrett.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. in Saint John's Catholic Church with burial in the Lincoln Cemetery both in Whitehall. Father Woodrow Pace will officiate.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service.
