Helma Lokken Thorson, age 103, of Pigeon Falls, died on Tuesday, October 29, 2013 in the Pigeon Falls Health Care Center in Pigeon Falls.

Helma was born on June 25, 1910 in Steig Coulee, Trempealeau County, WI to Carl and Clara (Engen) Lokken. She married Knut Thorson on June 17, 1931 in Pigeon Falls. Together they farmed in Daggett Coulee. Helma's hands were never idle. She enjoyed hard farm work, gardening and was skillful at all home tasks. Helma's favorite activities were cake decorating and especially quilting for family and friends. She lived a good, happy, long and productive life.
Knut preceded Helma in death on December 2, 1990.

Helma is survived by two sons, Ardell (Dianne) Thorson of Pigeon Falls and Donald (Karen) Thorson of Austin, TX; five grandchildren, Greg (Julie) Thorson of Merrill, WI, Kristen (Nick) Carroll of Pigeon Falls, Andy (Tanya) Thorson of Raleigh, NC, Matt and Adam Thorson both of Austin, TX; nine great-grandchildren, Vanya Thorson, Michael and Kevin Carroll, Olivia, Walker, Tanner and Delilah Thorson, Amber Grimes and Noah Marshall; a great-great-granddaughter, Ava Grimes. In addition to her parents and husband, Helma was preceded in death by a sister, Julia Ringlien and two brothers, Gustav and Clarence Lokken.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in Peace Lutheran of Pigeon Falls with burial in the Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery both in Pigeon Falls. Pastor Roger Benrud will officiate.

Visitation will be Friday, November 1, 2013 from 5-7 p.m. in the Jack Funeral Home in Whitehall and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
