Herbert Bernard Brasda, age 71, of York, died on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 in his home. Though some thought he should slow down, he still kept active working with his berry plants on his land and looking forward to fixing balers this summer. He enjoyed talking to the farmers and took great satisfaction in making stubborn balers run again.

Herb was born on November 26, 1941 in the town of Washington, LaCrosse Co., WI to George and Olga (Hanson) Brasda. His family relocated to a farm in Levis, town of Garfield, Jackson Co., WI in 1946. Herbert graduated from Lincoln Hills High School in Osseo in 1960.

Herb married Sherry West on July 2, 1974 in the Fairview Catholic Church near Fairchild, WI. They resided in Levis until June of 1978 when they moved to York where he ran a business known as Herb's Repair for over thirty years.

Herb served in the United States Army from 1963 to 1965. His service lead him to become a member of the Carl Nelson Post #324 in Osseo in 1977 where he served as Commander, Vice Commander and Adjutant over the years; a charter member of AmVets Post #1 in Pleasantville where he served as its first Commander; a member of the DAV and a past member of the Forty et Eight where he served as Chef de Gare of Voiture 260 for over twenty years.

Herb is survived by his wife, Sherry; a son, Steven (Kelly) of York; a daughter, Mandy (Michael) Brazee of rural Blair; four grandchildren, Kivrin and Charlie Brasda and Damian and Monica Brazee; three brothers, Donald (Ruth) and James (Elizabeth) both of Osseo and Wayne of Phoenix, AZ; a sister, Jean (Michael) Ray of Hixton; three brothers-in-law, Owen Hanson of Hixton, Jody West of Tacoma, WA and Mark West of Monroe, WI; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
In addition to his parents, Herb was preceded in death by two brothers, David and Bernard; a sister, Joyce Hanson and his in-laws, Donald and Jean West.

Military graveside services will be conducted by the Carl Nelson Post #324 of Osseo at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 24, 2013 in the Osseo Cemetery in Osseo.

Visitation will be Sunday, June 23, 2013 from 4-7 p.m. in the Jack Funeral Home in Whitehall.
