Ila Jane Remus, age 87, of Galesvile, died on Sunday, May 25, 2014 in the Marinuka Manor in Galesville.

Ila was born on December 30, 1926 in Whitehall, WI to Oscar and Selma (Trones) Olson. She attended the Highland Grade School and graduated from the Melrose High School. Ila attended the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse and practice taught at Fauver Hills.

Ila married Ansel Remus on October 26, 1946. Ansel preceded Ila in death on October 9, 2007.

Ila enjoyed cooking, gardening, quilting and playing cards. Ila's jobs in life were mother, farmer and later in life working at Marinuka Manor as a cook.

Ila is survived by nine children, Jane (Jim Burroughs) Johnson, Karen Schermerhorn, Alan Remus, Dean (Jane) Remus, Darcy (June Johnson) Remus, Beth (Jim) Nolan, Brenda Remus, Angie (Paul Beseler) Remus and Jon (Dolores) Remus; 20 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, a sister, Elaine (Alvin) Horn; two sisters-in-law, Irene Remus and Lorena Olson.

In addition to her parents and husband, Ila was preceded in death by a son, Arno; a granddaughter, Karie Johnson; a son-in-law, Sonny Johnson and a brother, LaVerne.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 29, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. in the Zion Lutheran Church in Galesville with Pastor Bryant Haney officiating. Burial will be in the North Beaver Creek First Lutheran Cemetery in rural Ettrick.

Visitation will be Wednesday, May 28, 2014 from 5-7 p.m. in the Zion Lutheran Church in Galesville and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.

The Jack Funeral Home in Blair is assisting the family with arrangements.
