James Leo Meyer Sr., age 93, of Blair, died on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 in the Grand View Care Center in Blair.

James was born on September 22, 1923 to Minnie (Beede) Rongholt and Leo Frank Meyer in Mondovi. He was united in marriage on May 4, 1946 to Hardis Arleen Eliason in Mondovi. Mom and Dad started their farming journey on a farm near Elk Creek and then moved to their farm in Turri Coulee in rural Blair where they raised their nine children. They retired from farming in 1995 moving first to Taylor and then moving back to Blair into Broadway Estates. In 2011, Dad took up residence in the Grand View Care Center.

In the early years, Dad and Mom enjoyed dancing and watching his brothers play their musical instruments. He enjoyed listening to Paul Harvey while milking his cows and would sit in his pickup to listen to the Chicago Cubs because that was the only radio that picked up WGN. Another team that he rooted strongly for was the Green Bay Packers. He had a wonderful sense of humor and played brilliant pranks on his wife and children on April Fools Day.

Dad is survived by eight of his children, Jerry Meyer, Judy (Carleton) Shull, Beverly (Gene) Waldera, Marilyn (John) Berry, Katherine (Stephen) Martin, Kathleen (Patrick) Nelson, Terry Meyer and Karen (Anton) Stawarz; 14 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Shirley Eliason.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Hardis, who died May 24, 2013; a son, James Jr.; two sons-in-law, Eugene Waldera and Stephen Martin; a grandson, Keith Waldera; three sisters, Ella, Hazel and Laura; four brothers, Edwin, Roy, Lloyd and Hank; four brothers-in-law and three sisters-in-law.

Dad, you will be missed by us all and we are happy that you were able to finally hear you beloved Cubbies win the World Series.

Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the Jack Funeral Home in Blair with burial in the East Bennett Valley Cemetery in rural Eleva. Pastor Barbara Bruneau will officiate.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

The Jack Funeral Home in Blair is assisting the family with arrangements.
