James Allen Thompson, age 60, of Eau Claire, died on Saturday, June 7, 2014 in the Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire.

James was born on July 11, 1953 in Whitehall to Ernest and Rosella (Ofte) Thompson. He married Dawn Hicks on December 23, 2008 in Winona, MN.

James served in the United States Army and was a self-employed auto mechanic. Jim loved driving through the hills of rural Whitehall, going to auctions, working on cars, attending the Escanaba, MI car show every year, riding his Harley to Rhinelander and taking trips to Palm Springs, CA. He also enjoyed golfing with old classmates during Beef and Dairy Days in Whitehall and looked forward to his granddaughters coming to visit.

James is survived by his wife, Dawn; three children, James E. (friend, Therese) Thompson of Eau Claire, Amy Thompson of Menomonie and Keith Thompson of Eau Claire; two granddaughters, Brianna Thompson of Menomonie and Sophie Thompson of Hudson; two sisters, Roseann (friend, Jeff Hoff) Boe of Whitehall and Diane (Pat) Beaman of Evansville, WI.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by a brother, Larry and a sister, Pat Stai.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 12, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the Jack Funeral Home in Whitehall with Pastor Terry Lorenz officiating. Burial will be in the Old Whitehall Cemetery in rural Whitehall.

Visitation will be Wednesday, June 11, 2014 from 4-7 p.m. in the Jack Funeral Home in Whitehall and also one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Thursday.
