Janice Genevieve Stendahl, age 92, of Whitehall, died on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 in the Grand View Care Center in Blair.

Janice was born on October 22, 1926 in Blair to Thorvald and Ida (Larson) Nyberg. She married Theodore Stendahl on August 2, 1952 in the First Lutheran Church in Blair. Theodore preceded Janice in death on October 8, 1973.

Janice was employed with Briggs Transportation in Whitehall and was the first woman dispatcher in the trucking industry in the United States. She later cooked at the A&W restaurant, the Whitehall Golf Course and the Golden Age Home. Janice also did housekeeping at the John O. Melby & Co. Bank.

Janice was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Whitehall and was active in its various organizations and enjoyed cooking and quilting.

Janice is survived by three children, Steven (Delaine) Stendahl of Whitehall, Susan (Jerry) Swanson of Scandia, KS and Scott (Renae) Stendahl of Whitehall; five grandchildren, Adam and Aime Stendahl, Matthew (Heather) Swanson, Evan (Kristen) Swanson and Austin Swanson; three great-grandchildren, Will, Alex and Ezra Swanson.

In addition to her parents and husband, Janice was preceded in death by a brother, Adolf Nyberg and a sister, Caroline Tjoflat.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. in Our Saviour's Lutheran Church with burial in the Lincoln Cemetery both in Whitehall. Pastor Peter Jonas will officiate.

Visitation will be Saturday, November 24, 2018 in Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Whitehall from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.

Memorials may be designated to the Trempealeau County Humane Society.
