Joanne P. Carlson, age 95, of Whitehall, died on Tuesday, November 15, 2022 in the Marshfield Medical Center in Marshfield.

Joanne was born on March 15, 1927 in Winona, MN, the fifth child of Samuel C. and Hazel I. (Sampson) Pittelko.  She grew up on a farm on Pleasant Ridge and attended a one room rural school, graduated from the Winona Senior High School and the Winona State Teacher's College (now the Winona State University).

Joanne started her teaching career in Eden Prairie, MN when there was only one school in the community.  Besides teaching in Minnesota, Joanne taught a number of years in Wisconsin.

Joanne married Curtis C. Carlson on February 26, 1949 in the McKinley United Methodist Church in Winona, MN.  Curtis preceded Joanne in death on February 7, 1994.

After her retirement, Joanne did volunteer work at the Tri-County Memorial Hospital and its nursing home.  She also did some volunteer work in the local public school.

Joanne is survived by a son, Lynn C. (Lori) Carlson of Stevens Point; a daughter, Shari J. (Michael) Nelson of Pittsville; six grandchildren, Jessica (Steve) Faber, Kevin (Alysa) Nelson, Curtis Carlson, Patrick Carlson, Andrew Cherney and Brandey Lorenzo; six great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson, two sisters, Lucille Ellenberger and Nancy (Ron) Paine and a sister-in-law, Esther Pittelko.

In addition to her parents and husband, Joanne was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Dale and three sisters, Bernice Lanik, Lila Pittelko and Marilyn Fort.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 21, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. in the Jack Funeral Home with burial in the Lincoln Cemetery both in Whitehall.  Pastor Tom Elliott will officiate.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service.

Memorials may be designated to the American Cancer Society or the charity of one's choice.
