On the morning of June 9th, 2016 Joanne Elizabeth (Harnisch) Steig entered God's garden.

Joanne was born on April 11,1934 in Whitehall to Harold and Esther (Galstad) Harnisch and grew up in the town of Hale. Joanne was baptized and confirmed in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Pigeon Falls.

Joanne was a hard working housewife and mother. She also worked as a nursing assistant at various healthcare facilities throughout Wisconsin. Along with Rodney they also farmed in rural Pigeon Falls and owned Rod and Jo's in York, Wisconsin. She was talented with needlework and many friends and family have a sampling of her hardanger. She loved spending time with her family, especially grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also loved playing games, reading and watching movies.

She is survived by her children, Brian (Tammy) Steig of Northfield, WI, Debbie (Gordie) Twerberg of Cleburne, TX, Donna (Dan) Skaar of York, WI, Laurie (Bob) Olson of Pigeon Falls, WI, Wayne (Linda) Steig of Fall Creek, WI, Kathy (Dean) Strasburg of Eau Claire, WI and Cynthia (Les) Archibald of Mondovi, WI; grandchildren, Jason (Sandra) Steig, Nicholas (Jolinda) Steig, Kristen (Jerod) Crawford, Kayla (Ben) Lutz, Dustin (Angel) Strasburg, Michelle (Josh) Goetting, Lindsay (Alex Earhart) Steig, Katrina Strasburg, Monica (Jon Luck) Skaar, Ethan Steig, and Kelsey (Mac Below) Steig; step-grandchildren, Josh (Kayla) Berg and Adam (Raychel) Berg and honorary grandson, Mauricio (Maria) Zapparoli; great-grandchildren, Zachary, Deacon, Brayden, Emerson and Aubrey Steig and Landry Crawford; step-great-grandchildren, Victoria, Jacob and Kaitlyn Berg, Stephanie Coddington, Bill Pimm and Sam Retzloff and honorary great-granddaughter, Ellena Zapparoli. Joanne is further survived by siblings Ronald (Audrey) Harnisch and Virginia (Dan) Peterson; brothers and sisters-in-law; numerous nieces and nephews.

Joanne was peceeded in death by her parents, Harold and Esther Harnisch; father and mother-in-law, Arthur and Myrtle Steig; younger brother, Richard Harnisch and her loving husband, Rodney Steig.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 13, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in Peace Lutheran of Pigeon Falls with burial in the Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery both in Pigeon Falls. Pastor Mary Ann Bowman will officiate.

Visitation will be Sunday, June 12, 2016 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Jack Funeral Home in Whitehall and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
