John Richard Carpenter, age 75, of Whitehall, died on Thursday, June 4, 2015 in his home.

John was born on July 8, 1939 in Eau Claire to Albert and Dorothy (Johnson) Carpenter. He married LuEllen Olson on July 17, 1981 in Whitehall.

John served in the United States Air Force. He was a construction engineer supervisor with GTE out of Black River Falls. After his retirement, John was employed with Lanter Courrier of Eau Claire, Miller Hardware in Whitehall and was a volunteer driver for Senior Services.

John could fix anything, including computers and electronics. He enjoyed watching the news, old movies and war movies.

John is survived by his wife, LuEllen; two sons, John Carpenter of Boston, MA and Ken Carpenter of Rice Lake; a step-daughter, Shelley Manka of Clarksville, TN; three grandchildren, a great-grandchild, three brothers, Dale (Virginia) Carpenter of Minneapolis, MN, Gerald (Cleo) Carpenter and William (Carol) Carpenter both of Eau Claire; his mother-in-law, Mavis Olson of Whitehall; several brother and sister-in-laws.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Lyle Olson.

Memorial services will be held on Monday, June 8, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. in Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Whitehall. Burial with military honors conducted by the Hutchins-Stendahl American Legion Post #191 will be in the Lincoln Cemetery in Whitehall.
