John Todd FitzGibbon, age 74, of rural Whitehall, died on Sunday, August 5, 2018 in the Gundersen Tri-County Care Center in Whitehall.

John was born on June 22, 1944 in Madison to Wayne and Frances (Balsley) FitzGibbon. He married Janice Schlereth on July 9, 1971 in Westport.

John and Janice farmed in Columbus and Westport. John worked at the UW Agriculture Research Farm in Arlington, WI and also tended a herd of cattle for the UW Veterinary School. John, like his father, had a passion for farming. Upon retirement from his work for the UW, John and Janice moved to rural Whitehall to continue the agricultural work John loved. John and Janice enjoyed traveling and were known to take long road trips to visit family and good friends. John was a member of Saint John's Catholic Church in Whitehall and was active in its various organizations. John was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was a 4 ^th degree knight.

John is survived by his wife, Janice; three children, John FitzGibbon of rural Whitehall, Joseph (Sarah) FitzGibbon of Lake Mills and Jan Marie (Ian) Ringstad of DeForest; seven grandchildren, a brother, William "Bill" FitzGibbon of Waunakee; a sister, Susan Lind of Manitowoc and a dear family friend, Jonathon Long.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by a special friend, John Long.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, August 11, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. in Saint John's Catholic Church in Whitehall. Father Woodrow Pace will officiate.

Visitation will be Friday, August 10, 2018 from 4-7 p.m. in the Jack Funeral Home in Whitehall where a parish rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary.

Committal services and burial will be held on Monday, August 13, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the Saint Mary of the Lake Catholic Cemetery in Westport. Father Paul Raj Sellam will officiate. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at Saint Mary of the Lake Catholic Church in Westport.

The Jack Funeral Home in Whitehall is assisting the family with arrangements.
