John E. Thoma, age 72, of Whitehall, died on Thursday, August 28, 2014 in the Lakeview Health Center in West Salem.

John was born on January 3, 1942, in the town of Hale, Trempealeau County, WI to Sam and Helen (Schultz) Thoma. He married Janice Kampa on September 15, 1962 in Independence.

John graduated from Whitehall High School in 1960. John had a passion for farming and motorcycles. He was a very social person and loved people. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

John is survived by his mother, Helen Thoma of Whitehall; his wife, Janice Thoma of Whitehall; three children, Jeff (Debbie) Thoma of Osseo, Sandra (Kevin) Koval of Independence and Vickie Fox of Plum City; seven grandchildren, Kayla, Taylor and Janna Thoma, Nicholas and Carter Koval and Chad and Tylor Fox; two sisters, Barbara (Leigh) Fossen of Shakopee, MN and Doris (Robert) Walske of Whitehall; a brother, Richard (Sue) Thoma of Whitehall, many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his father, John was preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law, Roman and Euphrosine Kampa and a brother-in-law, James Kampa.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, September 4, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. in Saint John's Catholic Church with burial in the Lincoln Cemetery both in Whitehall. Father Woodrow Pace will officiate. Friends may call one hour prior to the service.

The Jack Funeral Home in Whitehall is assisting the family with arrangements.
