Joyce Elaine Joten, age 81, of Taylor, died on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 in the Gundersen Health System in LaCrosse.

Joyce was born on November 10, 1934 in Trump Coulee, rural Blair, to Goodwin and Agnes (Strand) Nelson. She graduated from the Taylor High School in 1953.

Joyce married John D. Joten on September 23, 1953 in the Trempealeau Valley Lutheran Church in rural Taylor.

Joyce did babysitting in her home, enjoyed gardening, cooking, family reunions and loved her animals.

Joyce is survived by her husband, John; seven children, Randy, Cheryl (Elmer), Juanita (Nick), Dennis (Linda), Daryl, John E. (Cindy Gran) and Rick (Kim); an honorary son, Shane Rose; ten grandchildren, Melissa (Dave), Michelle (Trevor), Tim (Michelle), Jessica, Randy John, Stephanie, Danielle, Amanda (Alex), Mindy (Lucas) and Ashley ; five great-grandchildren, Kasey, Arryanna, Alexis, Maya and Alexandra; two brothers, Gordon (Dorothy) and Toby (Lola); a sister, Betty (Leonard) Simonson; a sister-in-law, Phila Nelson; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by a daughter, Diane "Coon"; a daughter-in-law, Ann Joten; a great-grandson, Devin Roskos; a brother, Wayne Nelson, a brother-in-law, Leonard Simonson and a son-in-law, Frank Perkins.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in the Trempealeau Valley Lutheran Church in rural Taylor with Pastor Benjamin Ahles-Iverson officiating. Burial will be in the Morken Cemetery in rural Melrose at a later date.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service.
