Muriel was born on September 23, 1928 in Bruce Valley near Strum to Fredrick Oscar and Anna (Olson) Franson. She was baptized and confirmed in the Bruce Valley Lutheran Church.

Muriel's parents passed away in a tragic drowning accident when she was only five years old. She was raised by her siblings, especially her sisters Mabel and Irvine and their families.

Muriel graduated from the Whitehall High School in 1946 after putting herself through high school by working for the principal and his family as a nanny.
She then worked for twenty years as a nurse's aide in the Whitehall hospital.

Muriel loved the job, her co-workers and especially the patients. She spoke of those days often.

Muriel married Richard "Bud" Myron Herman on May 8, 1965 in Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Whitehall. They were blessed with two children, Nancy Rae and Jeffrey Richard.

Muriel is survived by her daughter, Nancy (Bruce) King of Westby; two grandchildren, Zachary King of Coon Valley and Amanda King of Fennimore; a sister-in-law, Irene Franson of Whitehall and many nieces, nephews and their families.

In addition to her parents, Muriel was preceded in death by her husband, Richard, on June 5, 1990; a son, Jeffrey, on January 4, 2007; three brothers, Orville, Otis and Alvin Franson and two sisters, Mabel Pederson and Irvine Anderson.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 21, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in Our Saviour's Lutheran Church with burial in the Lincoln Cemetery both in Whitehall. Pastor Peter Jonas will officiate.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service.

Memorials may be designated to Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Whitehall.

Muriel's family would like to thank the staff at the Norseland Nursing Home in Westby for the wonderful care given to Muriel during her two year stay with them. Your kindness and caring will never be forgotten.
