Leonarrd O. Foss' Obituary
Leonard O. Foss, age 96, of Whitehall, died on Saturday, September 8, 2012 in the Tri-County Memorial Nursing Home in Whitehall.
Leonard was born on August 30, 1916 on a farm near Pigeon Falls to Benone and Lila (Olson) Foss. He married Helen H. Mustad on November 18, 1942 in Blair.
Leonard and Helen farmed in Fly Creek for many years prior to moving to Whitehall in 1967. Leonard worked at the WBI Feed Mill and was also employed as an assistant custodian for the Whitehall High School for several years prior to his retirement.
After his retirement, Leonard was involved with volunteer work in the community. He cheerfully provided transportation and help for neighbors and friends. Leonard and Helen were very active as volunteers for the Tri-County Memorial Hospital and Nursing Home for many years. Still, he always made time for fishing with friends and sharing his stories of fishing and old memories. We will remember him for his love for people, senses of humor and ability to make us smile.
Leonard is survived by his children, Richard (Nora) Foss of Whitehall, Gaylord (Julie) Foss and Sue (Michael) Standish both of Blair; a daughter-in-law, Sharon Foss of Whitehall; eleven grandchildren, Michele (Dan) Washkuhn of Columbus, MT, Sherry Foss of Whitehall, Brian (Cari) Foss of Fort Wayne, IN, Jeremy Foss of Eau Claire, Justin Foss of Menomonie, Nicholas and Casey Foss of Blair, Jason (Lisa) Standish of Blair, David Standish of Whitehall, Peter (Dena) Foss of LaVernia, TX and Joel (Sherrie) Foss of Roscoe, IL; ten great-grandchildren, a brother, Francis (Hazel) Foss of Blair and a sister, Janice Ingram of Little Rock AR.
In addition to his parents, Leonard was preceded in death by his wife, Helen, on February 14, 2009; a son, Victor; a grandson, Samuel and an infant brother.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 13, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in Our Saviour's Lutheran Church with burial in the Lincoln Cemetery both in Whitehall. Pastors Kris Fahey and Greg Standafer will officiate.
Visitation will be Wednesday, September 12, 2012 from 4-7 p.m. in the Jack Funeral Home in Whitehall and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
