Lorentz Milford Mattison, age 101, of Pigeon Falls, died on Wednesday, August 8, 2012 in the Pigeon Falls Health Care Center in Pigeon Falls.

Lorentz was born on January 31, 1911 in Mt. Vernon, WA to Martin and Lisa (Tomter) Mattison. He was baptized in the Fir-Conway Lutheran Church in Mt. Vernon. His family moved to the Pigeon Falls area when he was a small child. Lorentz was confirmed in the United Church in Pigeon Falls.

Lorentz lived on the home farm most his life. He worked at several part-time jobs but remained mostly a farmer. Lorentz served on the Huskelhus school board and the church council. He was on several bowling teams, a sport which he enjoyed. Traveling with his family in later years was also enjoyable, especially his three trips to Norway. Lorentz was very proud of his Norwegian heritage and loved to talk to anyone who could speak the language.

Lorentz married Marie Harriet Johnson on November 4, 1945 in Kenosha, WI. They celebrated 66 years of married life.

Lorentz is survived by his wife, Harriet; three children, Sue (Tony) Paulson of Madison, Tom (Linda) Mattison of Marlton, New Jersey and Kathy (Dick) Dean of Eau Claire; seven grandchildren, Chad (Katie) Paulson of Waukesha, Emily (Phil) Witkiewicz of Sun Prairie, Scott (Robyn) Mattison, Phil Mattison and Ashley Mattison all of Boise, Idaho, Shawn Dean of Minneapolis, MN and Tiffany (Ryan) Radosevich of Savage, MN; a step-grandson, Michael (Marissa) Fusco of Los Angeles, CA; seven great-grandchildren, Caleb and Elliot Witkiewicz, Gunnar and Beau Paulson, Layne Mattison, Dawson and Madison Radosevich; a sister-in-law, Beatrice Johnson of Red Wing, MN; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Lorentz was preceded in death by two sisters, Ethel Mattison and Vivian (Edwin) Monson; a brother, Marvin (Irene) Mattison; three brothers-in-law, Juneau, Jerrold (Dorothy) and Alton Johnson.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 13, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the Evangelical Lutheran Church with burial in the church cemetery both in Pigeon Falls. Pastor Roger Benrud will officiate.

Visitation will be Sunday, August 12, 2012 from 4-7 p.m. in the Jack Fuenral Home in Whitehall and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.

Lorentz's family would like to thank the staff of the Osseo Hospital, the Strum Nursing Home and the Pigeon Falls Health Care Center for their compassionate care.
