Lowell Lee Patterson, "Doc" age 90, of Whitehall, WI went to be with his Savior on Saturday, November 4, 2017 in the Gundersen Tri-County Care Center in Whitehall.

Lowell was born on December 15, 1926 to E. Lee and Leatha Patterson in the farming community of West Concord, MN. He graduated in 1944 from the Kasson, MN High School. In 1946 he enlisted in the Marine Corps and married Clara Mae Brown of Kasson on November 5, 1946 before he shipped out to the Pacific arena. While in the Marine Corps, PFC Lowell served as an MP on Guam and was present at many of the war crime trials. He was proud to have held the title of Expert Rifleman.

After his Marine Corps duty, Lowell returned to Minnesota and graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1954 as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. For five years he worked in Arcadia and then moved his family and practice to Whitehall in 1959. He established the Whitehall Veterinary Service and served the veterinary needs of Trempealeau, Jackson and Buffalo counties in dairy herd health and management with emphasis on dairy production. He expanded his practice in 1977 by bringing in the first of several veterinary associates who continued the practice when Lowell retired in 1989.

Lowell had a strong relationship with God and was very active at the First Baptist Church in Whitehall. He was involved on the church leadership board and taught adult Sunday School for many years.

He retired early from the veterinary practice to faithfully care for his wife Clara Mae who had become disabled with Multiple Sclerosis. In 1996 they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary and a month later Clara Mae went to be with her Savior.

Lowell enjoyed the outdoors with hunting, fishing, purple martins and bluebirds as his primary focuses. Still today, many bluebird houses are seen in the countryside that Lowell put in place.

Lowell married again in 1997 to Shirley Nelson of Whitehall. They enjoyed some travels and built a new home together. Because of his health concerns, Lowell entered the Gundersen Tri-County Care Center in 2015 until his death.

Lowell is preceded in death by his wife, Clara Mae and their infant son, Thomas; his parents and brother, Richard Patterson.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley; his six children, Virginia (Joe) Shepard of Oklahoma City, OK, Linda (Charles) Harrison of Midwest City, OK, Judi (Alan) Jackson of Kalamazoo, MI, Molly (Steve) Ketzler of Loveland, CO, Bill (Debbie) Patterson of Roscoe, IL and Christine (Dale) Woodard of Eden Prairie, MN; 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, a sister, Beverly Clark and a brother, Stanley Patterson.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 13, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the First Baptist Church in Whitehall with Pastor Rob Buhl and Dr. Larry Guthrie officiating. Burial will be in the Concord Cemetery in Concord, MN.

Visitation will be Sunday, November 12, 2017 from 2-5 p.m. in the Jack Funeral Home in Whitehall and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.

The family thanks the staff at the Gundersen Tri-County Care Center and St. Croix Hospice who cared for Lowell during his stay.
